Resistant
Ryan Petty The authors main plot in Resistant by Ryan Petty is about girl named Jennifer who is initially held captive going through Arkansas and Texas trying to find safe places for her to be in during a virus called SA8, a virus that wiped everyone out and now people are labeled by a SA number just in case they are given the virus. The author was very good in carrying out the purpose although there were small bumps where it felt like the story line was going off track as well as the characters were getting mixed up with their emotions and what they were doing as the moment. The author writes good as well as provides imagery for the reader with images such as them on the cover and the infinity sign symbolizing something important with the human race that is alive. It struck as there was a resemblance which may or may not be true with “the hanging tree” as that is portrayed as well in The Hunger Games but in the same aspect. The book is generally for young adults that are interested in sort of suspense and adventure for ages 13 and up. Although there are no personal experiences related to the topic I feel as if I was living through the eyes of Jennifer as she went through the adventure of the SA8 virus. My favorite part is when Jennifer become a part of the community where there was no virus and they accepted her even though she was inconclusive for the virus. My recommendation pertaining to the editing would be to proofread before publishing and make it to where the word “Petty” is bigger than the actual title. I loved the way they referenced and sort of tied in the Alamo in the story line. Jennifer was a very intriguing person to read about and I could relate to her personally when she was going through hard times and try to thrive while living. I enjoyed the story line and the way Petty was writing and exemplified the novel. As Petty continued to write about Jennifer, she suddenly came to life and the SA8 virus.

Theo and a Horse Named Rocket
W.H. Raymond The authors main point or plot in “Theo and a Horse Named Rocket” was to teach about living and even possibly life's lessons by teaching them through Theo and Rocket. Theo was presented with bumps in the road and still conquered them through getting assistance from others that may have been unsuspected when presented with these hard times through trying to find his passions in life. The author was very good in carrying out the purpose of the publication by the authors great writing style that included imagery and made me feel like I was a serious part of Theo's life. She did very well in carrying out the purpose of the publication and writes great. The book is generally for young adults age 13 up as it presents good life experiences and shows someone going through a struggle and dealing with it. Horse lovers would love the cover as I enjoyed examining it because of the eventful novel cover. I never would’ve thought the book would’ve been like this from the cover and glad I didn’t judge the book by the cover like people normally would do and think it’s just a horse story and not about the life of Theo. My personal experiences that relate to this topic is when I found my inner self after being admitted into a mental hospital and finding my passion and what I have to live for. I enjoyed the book and it usually wasn’t the genre that I generally read and enjoy but I loved this book. Even through the trials and tribulations that Theo was put through he still came out strong with a support group and a wonderful horse. My recommendation would be to try not to present so many characters or use such large print in the future novels. I honestly enjoyed the story line and my favorite part was when Theo went through his tragedy and still came out intact and together as a person which is the type of person I would look up to. Raymond provides a heart wrenching and thrilling viewpoint in this novel that I love, I would enjoy reading her future novels as soon as I can as I couldn’t seem to put this novel down! “Theo and a Horse Named Rocket” was eventful and adventurous and I would definitely recommend this novel to anyone! Time Zero
Carolyn Cohagan Upon observing “Time Zero” by Carolyn Cohagan, I was astonished and pulled in by the cover as well as the synopsis. The reviews on the back of the book also allowed me a “foot in” and a sneak peek as to what I was initially getting into. The author's main plot revolves around a girl named Mina Clark, and the observation and identification of the different lifestyles of girls around the world, portrayed through Mina's experiences, ways such as arranged marriages or not being allowed to go out without a man, etc. Mina thrived and survived through the challenges and then faced a much greater bump in the road that brought light to what she can really do, knowing how to read, and being in control of what she can do. The author was very successful in carrying out her purpose by pulling in and demonstrating real life instances. Cohagan is a wonderful author and storyteller, providing imagery in her stories and just simply letting the story flow, never repeating the same stuff as she always has more to tell. The book seems best suited primarily for young adults interested in adventure, as well as what's going on in this world. I would recommend it to all orientations and genders, as well as readers age 14 and up, as there are extremist standpoints and such correlated into a story that a younger audience might not understand. I felt as if I was a part in the story, in Mina’s shoes as she struggled through what she went through in her life. Cohagan had a great story line and topic and did a splendid job writing and making it come to life. I enjoyed every part, except for the way they treated the women in the novel. I gave “Time Zero” a 5-star rating, not only because Carolyn Cohagan is a great novelist, but because the storyline was great as well. I really enjoyed the book and will definitely read it again as she has a wonderful writing style. Mina wasn't “just” a girl in this novel, but a girl that never gave up, no matter the situation. |
